The Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of Labour, will return to Wellington today from the north. Mr H. Holland, Wellington, was a guest yesterday at the Hotel Midland, Masterton.
Mrs Bruce Mackenzie, of Auckland, was a visitor to Masterton yesterday. Her husband is a son of 'the late Sir Thomas Mackenzie. Messrs G. H. Arnold and C. Anderwas a visitor to Masterton today, at the Prince of Wales Hotel (Master-' ton). The Hon. A. Hamilton. Leader of the Opposition, returned to Wellington yesterday from the centennial celebrations to commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. Dr. Wilton Ernest Henley, M. 8., 13. Ch., 8.A., who was a 1929 New Zealand Rhodes Scholar, has been appointed to the staff of the Waikato Hospital. t The Hon. W. Lee Martin. Minister of Agriculture, left Wellington today for the West Coast. Before returning to Wellington at the end of next week he intends to visit the farming centres of Westland and the agricultural and pastoral show to be held in Greymouth. Advice has been received in Auckland of the death of Leading Writer C. W. Poulson, of the naval minesweeper Sphinx, which was damaged in enemy air- attack last Saturday and subsequently capsized while being towed to port in heavy weither. Leading Writer Poulson, whose home was in Middlesex, served for three years in New Zealand waters in H.M.S. Achilles. The death has occurred in Wairoa Hospital, of Mr Archibald James Lewis, one of the district’s oldest residents. He was 92 years of age. MiLewis was a son of one of the earliest pioneers who settled in the district. He was born in Wairoa and lived the whole of his lifetime in the district. He had many friends among pakehas and Maoris. Mr Lewis leaves a widow and four sons and three dughters. Members of the family from Wellington, Palmerston North. Feilding and Woodville attended the ninety-fourth birthday celebrations of Mr James Milroy in Woodville on Tuesday. A native of the Isle of Man, Mr Milroy came to New Zealand 65 years ago in the ship Ocean Mail. He first lived in Lyttelton, then moved to Nelson, where he remained till his retirement. 34 years ago. He is the oldest member of the Rechabite Lodge in New Zealand. His family consists of four sons and two daughters-—Messrs Charles (Wellington). Thomas (Owen River, Nelson). Nelson (Westport) and Frederick Milroy (Wairoa). and Mrs G. Coleman (Feilding) and Mrs J. A. Phelan (Woodville).
