REGENT THEATRE. SATURDAY, Monday, Tuesday: “THE BEACHCOMBER,” Somerset Maughan’s great play, featuring the mighty Charles Laughton as “Ginger Ted,” the beachcomber, a characterisation which is acclaimed as the greatest this wonderful actor has ever given. Notable support is provided by Elsa Lanchester (Laughton’s wife), Robert Newton and others. It is brilliant entertainment from first to last. Thrilling featurettes complete the programme. WEDNESDAY, Thursday, Friday: “PROFESSOR MAMLOCK,” the amazing Continental masterpiece of the true story of the Nazi purge — cruel, ruthless, barbaric, it is nevertheless true and is of particular importance in view of the present international crisis. TONIGHT: A glamorous new Continental star illuminates the screen— Ingrid Bergman in “INTERMEZZO,” a love story. Leslie Howard also gives the supreme performance of his brilliant career in this outstanding film. FRIDAY, February 16: The picture of a thousand thrills will the master detective of all time at grips with an arch-friend whose crimes shook the British Empire, “SHERLOCK HOLMES,” enacted by Basil Rathbone with Nigel Bruce, Ida Lupino, and Alan Marshall.
