ARSENICAL POISONING
NEED FOR EXTREME CARE. Many farmers apparently do not appreciate the poisonous properties o> arsenical preparations such as dip. weed-killers, foot-rot preparations, etc. During the past 12 months (says a wrn. ter in the Journal of Agriculture) he was called to three separate farms where animals had died suddenly ana where post-mortem and other evidence pointed clearly to the deaths being caused by the animals consuming' quantity of arsenic from foot-rot baths, etc. A farm was visited recently where two cows had died suddenly during the night from some unexpected cause. Post-mortem examination showed intense inflammation of the fourth storm ach and portion of the intestine. It was suspected that they had been po. sorted, and an investigation revealed a barrel containing a preparation intended for foot-rot treatment to which the cows could easily obtain access. They had apparently done so, as it was easily seen that, some of the preparation had been removed within a short time. Specimens from one of the cows ano from the foot-rot preparation were submitted to the laboratory, which reported that both specimens contained a large amount of arsenic.
