CONDITIONS IN WAIRARAPA. DAMAGE TO FRUIT CROPS. ' Buffeted by a strong north-westerly gale for two days, the Wairarapa district experienced a terrific gale earl) this morning, accompanied by squalls of rain. Orchards in Masterton and the Lowei Valley, were this morning coverec with windfalls and broken branches Serious damage is reported in connection with Bon Chretian pears and Delicious and Granny Smith apples. It is stated that the loss of fruit was confined mainly to varieties which wen' nearly ready for marketing. Othei varieties suffered extensive bruising, which may prevent them from beini marketed under the Government scheme. Hay and grass seed crops no' yet harvested were extensively damaged, pastures generally presenting ; burnt appearance, owing to the wind.
