The Irish Republican Army terrorists Barnes and Richards, were executed at Birmingham gaol yesterday morning, stated a Daventry broadcast last night.
An earlier press message stated on the eve of the execution of Barnes and Richards the police guard has been doubled at Birmingham Prison and the streets are being patrolled. Pedestrians are not allowed to congregate outside the prison. The Birmingham authorities have received threats of trouble if the executions are carried out.
Tom Barry, a former Republican leader, sent a telegram to the Premier of Eire, Mr de Valera, suggesting that he should request the British Government to delay the execution to enable the presentation of “conclusive proof of the innocence of the condemned men."
Details of Barry's alleged proof are reported to have been submitted to the Home Secretary.
