PERSONAL ITEMS MOVEMENTS OF LOCAL RESIDENTS. ("Times-Age" Special.) Mrs W. Bower Black, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs Jas. Fisher, of Clareville. After a holiday spent in Christchurch, she will return to Auckland. Mr and Mrs Jas. Fisher, of Clareville, who have been on a visit to Hawera, have returned home.

Mrs M. E. Eagle has found it necessary to enter the Masterton Hospital i for treatment.

After giving his verdict at the inquest into the death of Miss Eleanor Arini Stubbs yesterday, the Coroner, Mr E. G. Eton, expressed the sympathy of the court with the relatives of the deceased.

’ Mr and Mrs C. Tinsley and daughter, of Garrison Street,- who spent holidays at Paraparaumu returned to Carterton at the weekend.

LATE MR C. REID FUNERAL YESTERDAY. There was a very large attendance at the funeral of the late Mr Charles Reid, which took place yesterday afternoon. Before the long cortege moved off from deceased’s late residence in Chester Road, a short service was held at the residence. Sympathisers were present from all parts of the district testifying to the high esteem in which deceased was held. The service at the graveside as well as at the residence was conducted by the Rev. W. J. Couling, Presbyterian Minister. The funeral ritual of the Totara Lodge of Druids was read by P.D.P. Bro. A. Stretton. The pall-bearers were: Messrs L. H. Smart (representing the Wairarapa P. and A. Society), B. Bairstow (Carterton Racing Club), E. McKenzie (Wairarapa Rugby Football Union), C. A. Gray (Carterton Football Club), H. J. McKenzie (Totara Lodge of Druids), and P. J. Reid. Many . very beautiful wreaths covered the casket and the hearse, as well as being carried by car. Wreaths were received, among others, from the Stonehenge Lodge U.A.0.D., Totara Lodge of Druids. Wairarapa South County Council, Wairarapa Terminating Building Society, Belvedere Dairy Co., Carrington Dairy Co., Wairarapa Rugby Union, Carterton Racing Club, Belvedere Cricket Club, Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Carterton Football Club, Wairarapa Farmers’ Union and Wairarapa P. and A. Society. Over 50 members of the Totara Lodge of Druids were present, and on the casket was the Druids’ emblem, "Unity, Peace and Concord." The late Bro. Reid’s, P.D.P. Collar, which he had worn at hundreds of Druid, meetings and conferences all over New Zealand was interred with him. Among the early footballers present, who were associated with deceased in the early 80's were: Messrs Ned Ussher, R. G. Kemble and Geo. Eaton. Mr R. J. Smith represented the Bush District Rugby Union. Sir Herbert Hart, a nephew of deceased, who has' left New Zealand, sent a telegram of condolence. Many messages of sympathy were received from all over New Zealand.

Swimming. It is pleasing to note that Carterton swimmers were more than able to uphold their reputations at the Greytown Swimming Carnival on Monday evening wheii they were prominent in eight out of 13 events in which they competed. Damage By Gale. A westerly gale of exceptional force raged in Carterton and the district generally last night and is still blowing heavily this morning. As a result considerable damage has been done to orchards, while sheds and fences have been blown down in some parts of the district.
