AMERICA WATCHFUL
ACTIVITIES OF EUROPEAN DICTATORS. DRIVE TO GAIN INFLUENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 11 a.m.) WASHINGTON, February 6. Discussing the State Department’s financial needs for the next fiscal year, Mr Cordell Hull (Secretary of State), advised a House sub-committee that it now appears certain that the present strain and dangers may continue indefinitely.
Mr Lawrence Duggan, chief of the Latin-American division said: The war has increased the department’s task in South America, where European dictatorships are continuing to drive for influence. European ambitions are not only economic. They also have far-in-tentioned political and military motives. Until the world is more stabilised and some countries discontinue political and territorial ambitions, we will have to keep the closest tab on these activities.”
