AMERICA PACIFIST
UNITED STATES AND WAR
In a speech at Oxford on America’s attitude to the war, Sir Frederick White, of the Ministry of Information, said that America was pacifist in the best sense of the word. She desired a better world, but did not see why she should make it better against her will. No good purpose would be served in speculating on what America intended to do. nor in preaching what was her duty, he said. Those inclined to be critical of her duty in the war would do well Io reconsider (heir attitude. “An Anglo-American understanding may or may not be possible, but it will remain for ever out of reach unless England understands America.”—By radio.
