Clark (Palmerston North) are at the Hotel Midland, Masterton.
Miss S. Crossley, of Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs T. G. Harvey, Pahiatua.
Mrs G. O’Rourke and Miss O’Rourke Pahiatua, stayed yesterday at the Empire Hotel, Masterton. Miss J. M. McLean, of Auckland, has been appointed assistant mistress at the Mauriceville school.
Mr and Mrs Rogers (Wellington) were guests yesterday at the Empire Hotel, Masterton. Mr and Mrs W. R. Taylor, of Kohinui, have left on a motor tour of the north.
Miss R. W. Brown (Napier) booked in yesterday at the Hotel Midland, Masterton.
Miss A. Pitt, of Wanganui, is the guest of her sister, Mrs J. A. Walsh. Pahiatua.
Misses M. L. and M. C. York (Auckland), are guests at the Hotel Midland, Masterton.
Mrs W. S. Lett, formerly of Masterton, who has been visiting the Wairarapa, has returned to Levin. Mr and Mrs Pat Ward, Martinborcugh, visited Wellington for the Eucharistic Congress.
The death occurred suddenly at Rotorua of Mrs S. C. Hodges, former New Zealand tennis champion. She held the singles championship in 192(T and the doubles and combined doubles oh several occasions. She was 52 years old and leaves two daughters, Rosemary and Marion, who are well known in championship tennis. Mr and Mrs J. Siddells, Wanganui, on Friday will celebrate the diamond jubilee of their marriage, which was performed by the Rev. James Paterson in St. John's Church, Wellington, on February 9, 1880. Mr Siddells is a native of New Zealand, and was born in Nelson on November 11, 1859. He was a member of the New Zealand Police Force, serving for 40 years, 13 of which were spent in Wanganui, where he held the rank of detective-sergeant, retiring in 1917. Since his retirement, Mr Siddells has taken an active part in Wanganui’s civic affairs, and is amember of the Wanganui City Council and chairman of the library and art gallery committee. Mrs Siddells was born in Chiltern, Victoria, and at the time of her marriage was a teacher on the staff of Mount Cook School, Wellington. For more than 20 years she has been a member of several school committees and for many years was a member of the Wanganui Hospital Board. She is also a J.P.
