GREYTOWN
SWIMMING CLUB SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL. ("Times-Age" Special.) The Greytown Swimming Club held a most successful carnival last evening under ideal weather conditions. There was a large number of spectators and swimmers from Hataitai, Hutt, Petone and the Wairarapa clubs were present. A feature of the gathering was the expedition with which the events were got oft. The organisation work of the secretary. Mr M. Whimp. and Miss S. Keltic, his assistant, was perfect. Mr R. Pickard was a tower of strength to the carnival and the close finishes in most events were due to his wide experience of the district swimmers.' The ladies committee, under the supervision of Mrs C. W. Brown was kept busy providing refreshments for the competitors and officials. Mr J. F. Thompson presented the challenge cup to the Masterton team which won the Wairarapa relay event, and a miniature to each competitor in the winning team. Miss M. Thompson of Wellington won the silver cup for the open diving. Early patrons of the carnival evening saw the secretary, Mr M. Whimp, take a neat plunge off the diving board in his best clothes. A new board had been placed in position but was not finally secured. Mr Whimp was trying the board for its spring and the temporary fixing gave way.
