VAST EXPANSION PLANS CONFERENCE IN BRITAIN. IMMENSE LABOUR FORCE REQUIRED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 10.12 a.m.) RUGBY, February 5. Plans for a further vast expansion of armament and munition supplies were laid by the Government before the executive committee of the Amalgamated Engineering Union at a Conference at the Labour Ministry today. After the meeting, the general secretary of the union said the Government had asked them to assist in obtaining the necessary labour to carry this ambitious programme out and lhe union gave an undertaking to do so. The plans, he added, would involve the provision of an immense labour force. Mr Ernest Brown. Labour Minister, presided at Die conference, which included representatives of the Defence Department, Ministry of Supply and Ministry of Shipping. A further talk will be held tomorrow week between the Labour Ministry and the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Union.
