ATTACKED BY SHARK
BATHER FATALLY INJURED NEAR SYDNEY.

A shark tragedy occurred at North Brighton beach, close to Sydney, today. John William Elk. aged 55. was attacked in a few feet of water and his left arm was torn off at the shoulder.
Two fellow bathers suddenly saw Elk lashing the surf with his arms. The water became bloodstanned and they immediately went to his assistance and brought him ashore. They rendered first aid. but Elk died later in hospital.
