INTER-CLUB COMPETITIONS.

MEMORIAL DEFEAT MASTERTON

The Wairarapa Lawn Tennis Association's inter-club competitions were advanced a further stage on Saturday afternoon, conditions generally being very unpleasant, owing to a boisterous wind which set in following threatening weather in the morning. In the Gawith Shield competition Memorial scored a meritorious win over Masterton by a good margin. In the C grade St Patrick's obtained their first win in the competition this season. The results of Saturday's play are as follow: — A GRADE Carterton beat Martinborough. Memorial beat Masterton 16/8. B GRADE Park v Mt" Bruce. Masterton Park scored a comfortable win over Mount Bruce in an interesting and most enjoyable match, by 18 matches to 6. The following are the results. Park players being mentioned first in each instance:—

Men’s singles: K. Brader beat W. V. Buick 9/6; T. McGovern beat Welch 9/2; E. Handyside beat B. Williams 9/2; R. McEwen beat. E. Meurk 9/4; L. Morgan beat Wyeth 9'o; Morris lost to D. Buick 5/9.

Ladies’ singles: Miss Reader lost to Miss Allinglon 5/8; Miss West boat Mrs Buick 8/2; Miss Butler beat. Miss Welch 8/1; Miss Welch beat Miss Gooding 8/1; Miss Martell beat Miss McLeod 8/0: Miss Thorton beat Miss Mackay 8/1. Section results were as follows: — Men’s doubles. Park 2 matches, 24 games: Mount Bruce, 1 match, 20 games. Ladies’ doubles, Park 2 matches, 23 games; Mount Bruce, 1 match. 11 games. Combined doubles. Park 4 matches, 31 games; Mount Bruce. 2 matches. 30 games. Kuripuni v Carterton. Kuripuni beat Carterton in an exciting match by the narrow margin of 13 matches to 11. Details as are follows. Kuripuni players being mentioned first in each instance:— Men's singles: I. Hills beat Taylor 9/1; H. Volheim beat Harrington 9/2; T. Ihaka lost to Inder 8/9; F. Clarke lost to Andrews 8/9; B. McMaster beat Martin 9/6; W. Emerson beat Munro 9/3.

Ladies’ singles: Mrs Hills lost to Miss M. Beavcn 6/8; Miss J. Rutherford beat Miss E. Court 8/3; Miss Volheiiri lost to Mrs G. Riggs 7/8; Miss Vernier lost to Miss E. Bedford 0/8; Mrs Wright beat Miss M. Lawrence 8/3: Mrs Jaspers lost to Miss Armstrong 2/8.

Other section results were as follow: Men’s doubles, Kuripuni 2 matches, 23 games; Carterton 1 match, 16 games. Ladies’ doubles. Kuripuni 1 match 15 games: Carterton 2 matches. 23 games. Combined doubles, Kuripuni 4 matches. 41 games: Carterton 2 matches. 38 games.
