ST. DUNSTAN’S GOLD APPEAL
KING SENDS CIGARETTE BOX. The King has been graciously pleased to give his support to the St. Dunstan's Gold Appeal by sending a gold cigarette box. The gift, which stands about four inches high by six by four, is mounted on four lion's paws, and is elaborately engraved with a floral design; the whole is a beautiful example of the goldsmith's craftsmanship.
Many distinguished people, including the Lord Chancellor, Lord Halifax, the Duke of Beaufort, Lord Macmillan, and Mr Oliver Stanley, have also sent their gifts. The treasure received at St. Dunstan's includes pencils, watches, jewellery of all kinds, and even heirlooms.
Captain Sir Tan Fraser. Chairman of St Dunstan's, issued the appeal saying that the gold would help the country and the money realised from ils smelling and sale would help St Dunstan's.
St Dunstan's new work as a war hospital had begun. Already two cases, one from the Army in France, and I brother from the Navy, had entered the Hospital and were under treatment. His Majesty the King and the Queen have I'm- many years envinced a close interest in Hie work of St Dunstan’s. As Duke and Duchess of York they paid a visit to the Headquarters in Regent's Park, in 1923. when the King unveiled a memorial portrait to the founder. Ihe tale Sir .Arthur Pearson. Queen Mary also takes a great interest in St Dunstan's. Iler Majesty paid a surprise' visit recently to the Headquarters at Regent's Park. London, when she saw the organisation in its ordinary day-to-day setting. I
