GREYTOWN

CENTENNIAL DISPLAY

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age" Special.) A meeting of the executive committee of the Greytown Centennial celebration was held in the Council Chambers yesterday. There were present Messrs A. W. Horton (chailiman), R. G. Vile (organiser), H. C. Trotman. J. Kiernan and H. G. Carter.

Advice was received from. the. Camp Commandant that he would grant permission for the Military Camp Band tc attend the celebrations. The committee decided to accept the offer with thanks and to provide the necessary transport for the band. It was decided,not to increase the number of coloured lights. The Ponatahi Sports Club wrote stating that it had been decided to postponed the sports meeting so as no? to clash with the Greytown celebrations.

The W.F.C.A. wrote stating they would make a trade display. The P. and T. Department wrote stating that the Post Office would be decorated. A letter was received from the Bank of New Zealand stating that their premises would be decorated with bunting for the celebrations.

The Borough Council wrote inviting the committee to attend the church service on February 18. The committee authorised the ordering of the brass tablet to be fixed in the rest room.

A circular letter was received from the Department of Internal Affairs stating that the Government would provide a ribbon, on which a Centennial emblem would be imprinted, for all early settlers, and the figures 90, 85, 80, 75 would indicate the length of residence. The Department asked the committee to undertake the distribution of these ribbons. This was agreed to. BOWLING RINKS AT UPPER HUTT. Four rinks from the Greytown Club will pay a visit to Upper Hutt on Sunday.
