FURTHEST EAST
ROSS SEA EXPLORATION ISLANDS, CAPES AND BAYS DISCOVERED. ADMIRAL BYRD’S SUCCESS. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON. January 30. The United Press Association of America states that a radio message from Rear-Admiral Byrd says the barquentine Bear battled a 65 mile an hour gale, floes, and a blizzard to a point furthest eastward of the Ross Sea in history and the ship reached a huge unnamed bay near Marie Byrd Land. A score of islands, capes and bays were discovered, with the help of a seaplane. This success follows eleven efforts that were defeated in the past.
