Vancouver. —The Cariboo district in Central British Columbia, the scene of the famous gold rush of 1859. is today the centre of a new mining development. Tungsten, cinnabar, antimony, malybdenum and manganese ores have been found in the vicinity of Prince George. Montreal. —Despite climatic handicaps and resultant seasonal traffic, railways in Canada supply the cheapest freight transport of any comparable country in the world. Pre-war figures show that the cost in Canada to transport one ton over one railway mile was less than one cent. This compared with 2.05 cents in Germany. 2.13 cents in Italy, 2.34 cents in the United Kingdom, and 2.47 cents in Australia.
