NATIVE ADMINISTRATION
LORD HAILEY PROCEEDING TO AFRICA. INFORMAL STUDY OF PROBLEMS IN VIEW. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 27. The Colonial Office and the Dominions Office announce: “At the request of the Secretary for the Colonies and after consultation with the Governors concerned, Lord Hailey will shortly visit a number of British dependencies in West and East Africa, to undertake an informal study of certain aspects of native administration in pursuance of the work he has already done on Illis subject during his earlier visit in connection will* the preparation of the African Survey.
“It is expected that Lord Hailey’s inquiries, whiipi will start in West African lorritorie.-. will take- about six months. His attention will in the main be directed Io a comparative study of the forms of native administration, its technical working. and future development.
“At the end of his tour Lord Hailey will spend a short time in Southern Rhodesia, and the Government of I hat colony has olTered to facilitate an unofficial study for the purposes of comparison of tile principles and methods followed in its native administration. Such a comparison will be of value when further consideration is being given to questions of native policy in Rhodesia and Nyasaland to which attention lias been directed in Hie recent reofolprtoehdisßnoti HTIIT IIT NT H’J' report, of the Rhodesian-Nyasaland Royal Commission."
