CANADIAN ELECTION

VOTING ON MARCH 26

CENSORSHIP OF SPEECHES BEING ENFORCED.

DISSOLUTION CONDEMNED BY CONSERVATIVES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. OTTAWA, January 27. The Canadian Press Association states that the Prime Minister, Mr Mackenzie King, announced that the general election would be held on March 26. He promised to call Parliament together as early as possible if the Government were returned. Overseas voting will begin on March 14, but the results will not be known till a week after the civilian polling. Soldiers under the age of 21 will vote, following the 1917 precedent. All candidates will be required to submit their campaign speeches to the Broadcasting Corporation for censorship.

Mr Mackenzie King said he hoped that Parliament would meet early in April. The Liberal caucus passed a vote of confidence in the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, the formation of a National Government is the initial plank of the Conservatives, Dr Manion, the leader, promising “a Cabinet of the country’s best brains,” adding that the present Government is incompetent in wartime as in peacetime. The Conservative caucus passed a resolution condemning the dissolution as a violation of Parliamentary practice and an insult to members of Parliament.
