The discovery of an old brick-lined well, obviously built many years ago. was made by workmen engaged on excavation work preparatory to the construction of the new building for the IZB radio station in Durham Street West. Auckland. It was known that the 35ft well was in existence and, from plans of the site, the men had little difficulty in locating it when the top soil was removed. After nearly two days had been spent with a windlass and rope and bucket, only about two-thirds of the mud which had filled the well for years had been removed. To prevent any possibility of a subsidence of the foundations, the well will be filled with concrete before building is begun.
