CENSOR THAWS

RECENT GREAT FROST IN BRITAIN

ICE ON THAMES TIDAL WATERS. FIRST TIME SINCE 1894. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, January 27. The censorship now permits details of Britain’s recent great frost covering the whole country, even Cornwall. Thick ice fringed the tidal waters of the Thames below Kingston for the first time since 1894. Above here the river was frozen solid for eight continuous miles.

There was skating on the Serpentine and all London park lakes and reservoirs were covered with ice 10 to 12 inches thick. Motor radiators froze while the cars were actually in motion. Indoor temperatures were far below ■ freezing point.

“It is still cold in London,” said a Daventry announcer last night, “but we cannot tell you anything about this just yet. Perhaps there will be some more weather news in a fortnight if the censor thaws again.”
