NAVAL AFFAIRS
STRONG INTEREST EVIDENT IN CANADA. , r , n . . WINNIPEG. e Canadian prairies, far removed from the sea, are today as strongly interested in naval matters as are Canada’s coastal provinces. The Hon. John Bracken, premier of the Province of i anitoba, in acknowledging the honour to the province by naming Canadas new flotilla leader, the H.M.C.S. Assiniboine,” after a Manitoba river, lecently referred to the “awakened interest of the Prairie people in Canada’s growing naval strength." He stated that perhaps there is no more striking demonstration of the unity of thought of Canada about participation in this war than the great change that has taken place in the attitude of the press (reflecting public opinion), toward naval affairs. This is particularly noticeable, and particularly significant, in the case of the central part of Canada, removed, as it is, so far from the sea and from intimate touch with things naval.
