AIR ALARMS

ERRONEOUS REPORTS CORRECTED

PLANES IN BRITAIN.

RECENT SHETLAND RAID.

By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. (Received This Day, 11 a.m.) LONDON, January 25.

Anti-aircraft guns went into action last night when a plane was seen in the vicinity of an East Coast town. The Air Ministry later stated that the plane was friendly and was not damaged. It is reported that a German plane flew over the Thames Estuary in the afternoon and anti-aircraft guns fired but the Ail- Ministry announced that the report was inaccurate. There was no enemy aircraft in the area. In reference to the Shetlands raid on January 24, Captain Crawford, of the trawler Lochassager, states that a German plane dropped two bombs, the first falling fifteen yards from the trawler. The bomb threw the stern around and deluged the deck with water. The plane arrived and left so' quickly that there was no time to use a gun, even if the ship had one. The German version was that “British ships which proved to be armed merchantmen opened fire on the German planes, which answered with bombs.”
