The Italian Line stated that 44 passengers and 60 seamen of the Orazio have been given up as lost. There were 645 aboard and 541 were saved, of which number a child died of burns.
The owners' investigation shows that the fire was due entirely to a mechanical accident to a motor. The Orazio carried 1500 tons of cargo. Shipping circles believe that the total loss will be over .£500.000.
