OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
THE BATHS PROPOSAL (To the Editor.) Sir —In today’s paper you report the likelihood of the ratepayers of the borough being being asked to sanction a loan to construct either cold or tepid swimming baths. I think I am correct in saying that in the borough of Masterton there are two public swimming baths, two at public schools, and two at private schools, also one under construction for nurses at the hospital. With at least six swimming baths in the borough, why, Sir, should the ratepayers be asked to give their consent to a loan to provide another? Now, Sir, if our councillors would put forward a proposal for a loan to augment our water supply, thus providing more pressure for fire-fighting and for private purposes, I feel the ratepayers would have some use for it, but for another swimming bath —no. I am, etc,
RATEPAYER Masterton, January 25.
