Burton, Mt Albert Grammar School, 1752; H. A. Whale, Auckland Grammar School, 1604; J. G. Millar, Mt Albert Grammar School, 1600; K. F. Quinn, Wellington College, 1579; W. McCulloch, St Andrew's School, Christchurch, 1481; D. P. Wallace, Timaru Boys’ High School, 1453; A. W. Roberts, Timaru Boys’ High School, 1438; T. B. J. Quinn, St Kevin's School, Oamaru, 1434; Myrtle L. Roped, Avonside Girls’ High School, Christchurch, 1420; J. D. W. Monigatti, Nelson College, 1418; W. R. Tuck, .Auckland Grammar School, and Lesley G. Housby, Epsom Girls’ Grammar School (equal), 1416. R. F. Burton was not a competitor. H. A. Whale, K. F. Quin and T. B. J. Quinn were awarded the university national scholarship.
