RAILWAY TO RUMANIA
POLICED BY GERMANY
UNDER AN AGREEMENT WITH RUSSIA.
TROOPS ON THE FRONTIER.
By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. LONDON. January 23. German, troops, acting as railway police, have arrived at the Rumanian frontier, slates a message from Bucharest. Il is officially announced lhat Russia, has agreed Io allow Germany to polic-e Hie 200-mile railway from Rumania Io Germany, via Russianised Poland, after Gerinany had complained that, shipments of munitions were delayed or lost, owing Io the chaotic railway system.
It is understood Rumania has been assured that, this does not mean a large concentration of troops on the frontier.
"The Times’ ” Bucharest correspondent says that the German forces in Galicia amount to several divisions and include at least two infantry regiments at Lemberg and artillery motorised divisions elsewhere.
The Hungarian radio states that the Rumanian Government has declared the district of Cluj, near the Hungarian border, a military zone.
It is learned that Germany has acquired a powerful interest in two of Rumania’s biggest armament firms as a result of a Rumanian law rendering worthless 500,000 share certificates deposited in a London bank by a Czechoslovakian firm since taken over by Germany. The new law made shares held in foreign countries liable to cancellation but permitted the owners to claim duplicates of the same at a nominal value in Rumania.

The Bucharest correspondent of the “Daily Mail" says that 30.000 German troops have already gone to Eastern Galicia. Russia and Germany are undoubtedly discussing a substantial readjustment of the frontier of Poland, namely, a grant to Russia of more territory in North Poland in exchange for Eastern Galicia. King Carol of Rumania is constantly conferring with his Cabinet.
‘•The Times's" Bucharest representative says that in the last fortnight six train-loads of Soviet troops nightly have left Lemberg for Podwoloczyska on the old Russian border.
