TENNIS TOURNEY
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION MEETING PLAN' OPENS THIS MORNING. SOME NOTABLE COMPETITORS. The Wairarapa Lawn Tennis Association’s annual championship and handicap tournament commenced on the Mastertoii Club's courts this morning. Entries are well up to standard, and include those of several well known outside players. Indications point to the fixture providing some keen and interesting tennis. The weather is perfect and the courts are in splendid order. The tournament will continue next week.
Among notable players taking part are: Messrs D. B. S. Lee (Nelson), N. and R. McL. Ferkins (Wellington), R. J. D. Sharpe and T. N. Lowry (Hawke’s Bay), Dr. W. H. Entwistle (Auckland), J. E. Hamilton (.Wellington), and the present Wairarapa championship holder, P. Hawksworth. Prominent women competitors include Mrs Cotterill. Misses Glenny (Hawke's Bay), Z. Castle, P. Longton (Wellington), Mavis Kerr (Otago), and Mrs H. D. Kennedy (Wellington). Mr G. A. Pearce. Wellington, arrived this morning. Results are as follow: —
