AIR SUPREMACY
PROCESS OF EVOLUTION. “Aircraft design everywhere is a ceaseless and marvellous process of evolution," writes Mr J. L. Garvin in the “Observer.” “It advances by competitive improvement. British technicians are second to none. They would be the last to under-estimate their antagonists. We pride ourselves justly on. some surpassing types we at present, possess. We know that the Germans during the delay must have been striving to get ahead for a while in their turn. It reminds us that our sleepless task is to beat our best of today by our best of tomorrow until the Allies’ air supremacy, qualitative and quantitative, is irreversibly established. The sooner the better. Meanwhile, our defence by fighter-squadrons, ground-fire and balloon barrages is a confident counter-power. Our Air Force is ready to face any overhead Armada in an Elizabethan spirit. Nazi repetition has frustrated one of its purposes by making the British people nerve-proof against threats and uncertainties alike; The solid resolve of the whole nation stands four-square to meet any test at any time.”
