REP. CRICKET GAME ENDS IN TIE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Bush v Central Hawke's Bay representative cricket match for the Pickard Shield, played at Pahiatua on Saturday, opened in uncertain weather. Bush (holders of the trophy) opened their first innings rather disastrously, the first wicket falling in the third over. Sandman and Montgomery added 20 runs to the score and then both these rnen. were dismissed. Tredray started well by hitting a beautiful six but was out lbw shortly afterwards. Six wickets were down for approximately 50 runs when Francois went in. Signal joined him but was out after playing two good shots, a 3 and nicely hooked 4. The last man, Dungan, alofig with Francois brought the total score to 104 with a good partnership realising 30 runs. Francois drove nicely and when the innings closed was undefeated with 18.

Montgomery and McKay opened the attack for Bush and quickly had the Central Hawke’s Bay men in difficulties. Runs came slowly and when rain stopped play 50 runs were on the board for the loss of six wickets. Play was resumed after an interval of 20 minutes and Chapman, who had batted steadily, was out second ball. Wilson and Alrdich brought the score to 96. Wilson did some clean hitting to score a nice 27. He was caught, and Aldrich was run out. The last man came in with five runs needed for victory and 10 minutes to play. A two came off Tredray’s bowling and two singles off Francois. The latter then put down a full toss, and the batsman went for a hit, but was clean bowled, the innings finishing for 104. Montgomery and McKay bowled splendidly for Bush. Francois was handicapped towards the end by a greasy ball. A feature of the game was the good fielding by both sides.
