FRAM REQUIREMENTS
-—- -"ty — ACUTE SHORTAGE REPORTED. ACTION BY GOVERNMENT SOUGHT. Definite shortages of several essential farm requirements were reported at the meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union today. It was decided to make representations to the Government regarding the matter.
A letter was received from the Manawatu Provincial Executive stating that at a recent meeting of the executive great concern was expressed at the shortage of hay baling wire in the Manawatu district, and the executive had decided to take the matter up with the Minister concerned and see if immediate steps could not be taken to relieve the acute shortage. The letter asked, whether, if there was a similar shortage in the Wairarapa district, the Wairarapa Provincial Executive would make similar representations, in order to acquaint the Government with the seriousness of the shortage. Several members expressed the view that there was a definite shortage in the Wairarapa, although one speaker held the opinion that some exploitation. was taking place. Others pointed out that such things as piping, roofing iron, nails, staples and reinforcing lor concrete posts were also in short plyIt was decided to write to the Department of Industries and Commerce pointing out the great increase in price of fencing and baling wire, and urging the need of adequate supplies for future use. It was also decided to draw the Government's attention to the acute shortage of piping, roofing iron, nails. and reinforcing for concrete posts.
