CARTERTON
RACING CLUB MEETING OF STEWARDS. ("Times-Age" Special.> A meeting of Carterton Racing Club stewards was held in the P’. and A. Society’s building last evening, Mr P. Bain presiding. There were also present Messrs J. C. Harp, P. A. Cole, J. Johnston, G. A. Vincent, W. C. Deller, E. J. Matson, R. G. Kemble. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. Howard Booth, L. H. Smart. Geo Eaton, F. Yule, A. O. Abbott, V. L. Robinson. C. Jensen.,
The treasurer reported that the receipts since last meeting amounted to £lO4 6s. The dr balance at the Bank of New Zealand stood at £669 7s 2d.
Accounts amounting to £47 10s 6d were passed for payment. Mr Geo A. Vincent, on behalf Of the Carterton Gun Club, thanked the stewards for having allowed the club tc remove a shed on the Racecourse. It was decided to thank the Carterton Gun Club for its donation of £5. 5s for the use of the ground during the last shooting season. It was resolved that the secretary write to Messrs Merrett and Fox ask-' ing on what terms arrangements could be made for the running of the totalisator at the Carterton Racing Club’s annual meeting. It was decided that nominations for the meeting close at Carterton on Friday, February 23.
Reference was made to the death of the late Mr McLeod, chairman of the Racing Conference, and a vote of condolence was passed to the relatives. Personal. Mr and Mrs H. Hughan left today on a holiday which is to be spent in the Marlborough Sounds. Soldiers Farewelled. There was a large number of people at the railway station yesterday afternoon when several Carterton recruits, who were en route to the Trentham Military Camp, were farewelled. As the train steamed out of the station rousing cheers were accorded the men. Among those who left Carterton were Messrs K. Townsend, J. Woodbury and Garth Roydhouse. Bowling Competitions. In a champion pairs game played last evening Kilmister and Beale (s) defeated Simmonds and Riggs (s) 19/15. The following fourth round draw has been made in connection with the champion pairs:—TWo lives: Kilmister and Beale (s) play Harrington and R. Thompjson (s). One life: Underhill and Harp (s) play Hawker and DeLacey (s); Bain and Tucker (s) play Newbould and Hughan (s); Simmonds and Riggs a bye. Games are to be completed by January 24.
