CARTERTON
BOWLING CONTESTS DRAW FOR SINGLES AND RINKS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following is the draw for the ehampion singles and rinks competitions of the Carterton Bowling Club: — Singles: fourth round, two lives, A. Thompson plays Barber. One life, G. Hart v Barr, Hughan v Martin; Larsen v Robertson, Sorensen v Stent. Games must be completed by Janaury 23. Champion rinks, third round. Sorenson plays Barber, Hughan. plays' Barr, Riggs plays Harp, J. G. Stevens plays Whyte. Tucker plays Simmonds. The games are to be played by Janaury 20. Several games in the club championships have been played and have resulted as under: —
Champion singles—Stent beat Larsen, 19/12. Progressive Pairs —Newbould and Barber (s) beat Kilmister and Harrington (s) 30/21; Newbould and Robertson (s) beat A. Thompson and Harrington (s), 26/25; Boyne and Robertson (s) beat Hawker and Smith (s), 18/17.
SERVICES APPRECIATED
PRESENTATION TO POWER BOARD EMPLOYEES. A very pleasant gathering took place in the head office of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board, Carterton, when a presentation was made to two members of the staff who are to be married shortly, Mr. E. C. Lane and Miss O. Hills.
In making the presentation, the Sec-retary-Manager, Mr. Geo. Brown, referred to the excellent service both had given in the interests of the Power Board. Miss Hills had been with the board for some considerable time, anther work was greatly appreciated. Mr Lane had also been in the service of the board for several years and was a very conscientious and capable employee. In handing them an electric wall lamp and electric iron on behalf of the staff, Mr. Brown wished both a very hapoy and prosperous weddeci life. Mr. Lane thanked Mr Brown for his good wishes and those present for their serviceable gifts. It is interesting to note that during the past few years no fewer than six couples have been married while in the employ of the Power Board, Carterton.
LAWN TENNIS
TEAMS FOR SATURDAY. The junior section of the Carterton Bowling Green Lawn Tennis Club will be represented by the following against the Masterton Memorial team, at Carterton tomorrow: — Mrs W. Moroney, Mrs M. Manson. Miss G. Knutson, Miss M. Pauling, Miss R. Hopkins, Miss I. Corlett, Messrs. K. Goodin, A. D. Taylor (capt.), A. H. Krahagen, V. Inder, C. Jensen, R. Andrews, R. Harrington. The following team will play for Carrington Park in a match against Masterton Park, at Carterton, tomorrow: H. Parker, M. Parker, J. Fitzgerald, A. Tankersley, W. Vaughan, G. Townsend, Mesdames H. Parker, M. Parker, Geo. Steffert, Misses A. Williams, S. Copeland, N. Williams.
Personal Items. Mr J. G. Stevens, who has been staying with his son-in-law, Wakelin St., left for Wellington this morning. After a brief stay in the capital city he will proceed to Dannevirke. Messrs Carl Larsen, W. Kempton and others, who have been enjoying a fishing holiday in Marlborough Sounds for a week, have returned to Carterton. They report excellent fishing and a splendid holiday. Mr and Mrs Albert Patterson, of Pembroke Street, who have returned from a motoring holiday, spent a pleasant time in many places in the north. Mr W. Pearson, of Auckland, who has been visiting friends in Carterton, left for Wellington yesterday afternoon. After a brief stay in Wellington he will return home. Mr and Mrs H. H. L. Meyrick, who spent the Christmas and New Year holidays at Waipukurau with Mrs Meyrick’s parents returned to Carterton yesterday.
