GREAT WAR TENSIONS
» STILL ABSORBING £38.000,000 IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 10. Twenty-one years after ■ the end of the Great Wai' the Pensions Ministry is still spending £38,000,000 each year. This figure was given by the Minister of Pensions, Sir Walter Womersley, today, when speaking on the work of his department. He added that in 25 years, £1,350,000,000 has been spent on pensions alone. Though 800 new cases are dealt with each year, the number of beneficaries has now fallen to 850,000.
Saying that it is impossible to speak too highly of this public-spirited action. Sir Walter Womersley disclosed that 46 pensioners have voluntarily relinquished their pensions as a contribution toward the expenses of the present war.
