WOOL APPRAISEMENT
BIG OFFERING AT NAPIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NAPIER. Janaury 10. A start was made today in the stores at Port Ahuriri with the second appraisal of the Hawke’s Bay wool clip under the war commandeer. A team of 15 appraisers, headed by Mr Albert Smith, the chief appraiser for the North Island, is engaged in handling a total entry of 33.558 bales—approximately 10.009 more than were catalogued for the first Napier appraisal. Entries from individual brokers are: Dalgety and Co., Ltd.. 4790 bales: Do Pelichet. McLeod and Co.. Ltd.. 4365: Hawke’s Bay Farmers' Co-operative Association. Ltd.. 8621; Murray. Roberts and Co.. Ltd.. 4646: New Zealand Lean and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd.. 2450: Williams and Kettle. 8686. Though there is a certain tenderness in the hogget wools and the length of staple that distinguished last season's exceptionally well-grown clip is lacking. the wool being opened up in the stores is described as well up to the average standard for Hawke’s Bay.
