ADDINGTON SALE FIRMER MARKET REPORTED. BENEFITS OF RECENT RAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 10. Firmer markets in practically all sections of stock were apparent at the Addington market today,, when entries generally were larger than those of a week ago. The improved fattening prospects as a result of the recent rains was the main cause for the improvement for store stock. Store lambs: Most of the 3000 odd sheep forward in this section comprised lambs in forward to medium condition. the former selling at from 17s to 18s lid for open-woolled sorts ready for rape feed. Indifferent sorts showed no improvement. Fat lambs: The entry of 1400 fat lambs sold at the best ot schedule rates, at up to 81d a lb. Exporters were in the market to the full extent of the schedule. Fat sheep: Four thousand fat ; sheep were penned, wethers forming a small proportion. Good wethers and ewes were better by Is to Is 6d a head, and light wethers by Is. Freezing ewes were bought to some extent at up to 13s 6d. The best of the wethers sold at from 30s to 335, with the tops to 37= 7d, and the mediums from 25s to 295. Good ewes ranged from 24s to 265, with ■ a few tops at from 29s to 335. Export ewes made from 12s to 13s 6d. Fat cattle: Four hundred head were yarded in this section, and the best sale for some week’s resulted, the improvement for steers and best heifers being from 20s to 25s a head, and lighter and secondary sorts to 15s. Prime steers made from £l5 to £lB. with the tops to £l9. and the mediums from £l3 to £l4 10s. The best of the heifers made £ll to £l3, with the tops to £l4 15s, and the best cows from £lO 15s to £l2 15s. with the tops to £l4 10s. Good beef sold at from 40s to 43s to 1001 b with the best to 455. Fat pigs: There was an irregular sale for porkers, which ranged at from 35s 6d to 54s 6d, an average price of 61d to 7d a lb. Baconers maintained recent values, prices being from £2 18s 6d to £4 14s 6d. an average price a lb of 61d to 6 : ‘d. JOHNSONVILLE PRIME BULLOCKS IN DEMAND. HEAVY WETHERS FIRMER. A large yarding of bullocks, a small yarding of cows and an average yarding of vealers were offered by Wright. Stephenson and Co.. Ltd., at the sale conducted by them in Johnsonville yesterday. Prime heavyweight bullocks met with good competition, though prices showed no alteration on those ruling last week. Mediumweight bullocks were easier by 5s to 10s a head, and unfinished bullocks were easier by 15s a head. There were no alterations in prices for cows and heifers. A good demand resulted for vealers. and prices were firm on last week's. The wether yarding was large, the ewe yarding average, and the lamb yarding larger than usual. All classes of wethers met with good competition, with heavy wethers firmer by 6d to Is a head on last week. Mediumweight wethers met with no alteration, and light and unfinished sorts were Is a head easier. Extra prime heavy ewes sold readily, with little alteration. Light to mediumweight sheep were Is a head easier on last week's quotations. Prime quality lambs met witli a good competition, prices being on a par with those ruling last week,
though lightweights were hard to sell. Prices are: — Cattle: Prime extra heavy' bullocks £l4 to £l3 12s 6d. prime heavy £l3 10s to £l3 2s 6d. heavy. £l2 18s to £l2. medium £ll 17s 6d to £ll 2s, light and unfinished £lO 10s to £lO 2s; extra prime heavy cows and heifers £9 5s to £9. prime heavy £8 15s to £7 12s. cows and heifers £7 5s to £6 12s 6d: runners, extra heavy. £5 to £4 12s. plain £3 5s to £2 10s; vealers £2 5s to £ 1 15s. small £1 12s fid to £1 Is. Sheep: Prime extra heavy wethers 24s 6d to 23s 6d. prime heavy 23s 3d to 21s 9d. medium 21s fid to 20s 9d, light 20s to 18s 7d: prime extra heavy ewes 18s to 16s 4d. prime heavy 16s to 15s. medium 14s fid to 12s 6d: heavy spring lambs, small pens. 26s to 21s 6d; medium spring lambs 20s 3d to 17s 7d, light 16s 6d to 15s.
