ENEMY SUBMARINES
OPERATING NEAR CANARY ISLANDS. SECRET BASE SUSPECTED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright ' (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) RIO DE JANEIRO, January 10. The newspaper “Anoits” reports that Avila Star passengers claim that their ship was attacked by three submarines near the Canary Islands, in the vicinity of the attack on the Highland Patriot. The convoy sank one submarine. It is believed that there is a secret German base near the Canary Islands.
