SUPPLIES HELD UP

REPORTED ITALIAN PROTEST TO GERMANY. LONDON, Janaury 8. The number of Italian planes held up by the German Government is not revealed, but a number of Italian railway cars have been seen at a Baltic port. The German attitude, according to an Associated Press message, seems to have been determined by Russian pressure. A Geneva message says that according to League circles Italy is insisting on the immediate release of the planes. Germany maintains that according to international law she is not obliged to permit transit of war materials and can decide each case on its merits. A Copenhagen message reports that Nazi authorities at Sassnitz detained 45 wagon loads of Italian small arms, rnachine-guns and ammunition destined for Finland. Italy and Germany are discussing their disposal. BOMBING OF TOWNS FINNISH PRESIDENT APPEALS TO WORLD. Another appeal to the world against the Russian bombing of Finnish towns
