BEACH FASHIONS
> GAY COLOURS POPULAR. i, Beach fashions are gayer and more varied than ever this season and the , r demand for all classes of sports clothes since the beginning of the holidays has ta exceeded expectations. To buyers must go the honour of clothing the beaches in the most brilliant hues, and in order to meet the whims of beach 1 visitors, both male and female, they have presented a range of goods never previously so extensive. ( Every season witnesses the introducj tion of some novelty in bathing costumes. This year the palm has been 3 taken by satin lastex suits for both ? sexes. Import regulations restricted the quantities of such suits made avail- , able to the public, and the result has been a great shortage in women’s lines and a complete disposal of the men’s shorts. I Blue Shades Popular. Blue is the popular shade in all ‘ bathing costumes. However, my lady’s .waterfront wardrobe has been extended to include many attractive nautical, tartan and floral designs. In addition to the newest elastic suits., the women's costumes in best request have been woollen, but there has also been much demand for woollen-lined dressmaker suits, Australian camisole tops and shorts, and the three-piece American can-can suits, with frilled trousers, brassiere tops and zippered coatees. For sensitive skins, and to prevent excessive sunburning, wraps to be worn over bathing costumes have been popular with young women. The wraps are offered in long and short styles, made of towelling and cotton materials. One of the most distinctive varieties is modelled in fish-net design. Men's Preferences. Large hats in floral and plain colours to tone with the remainder of the ensemble are being extensively worn, while for informal dress no particular preference has been shown in the matter of shorts and slacks. Fancy canvas and rubber sandals and toepeepers have been widely chosen in ' ladies' footwear for the beaches. In selecting new bathing costumes men have invariably chosen shorts, “the briefer- the better,” it was stated. 1 Here again the popular colour has been ! blue, and because of the shortage of 1 new elastic materials, woollen suits 1 have been given preference. 1 There has been a marked increase in I ‘the sale of sports shirts with short k sleeves in materials ranging from tow- 1 elling to linenette. Tan and rust shades have claimed most attention, while r short trousers to match in tropical ° cloths have also sold freely. There is t still a big demand for khaki shorts. s and in footwear tan and grey sandals t have been selected, leather taking pre- E cedence over suede.
