HAVOC IN ANATOLIA
- FURTHER DISASTROUS FLOODING MISERY IN ISOLATED VILLAGES. SOLDIERS STRUGGLING THROUGH SNOWDRIFTS. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. ISTANBUL. January 7. Thousands of soldiers are making their way over snowdrifts across the blizzard-swept Anatolian plateau in a desperate effort to give succour to a score of villages which have been isolated by the earthquake. The remote town of Erba has been frantically telegraphing for help as the occupants are dying from hunger and exposure. An American relief train is snowbound 20 miles away. Further tremors shook Sivas, Yozgad, and Bergama, causing havoc in the huddled settlements. Flood damage is increasing in Manisa, Odemisa. Menemen, and. Bergama. A regular migration is proceeding from the wrecked areas, 2000 destitute people from Bursa going inland. . Typhoid is raging in the remote regions to which it is impossible to get medical supplies. An entire mountain has subsided in the coastal region. After several days of silence, which gave rise to hopes of the safety of the survivors of the earthquakes and flooding in Turkey, news of further disastrous flooding was received today from Smyrna, states a report from Daventry. 'Communications have been cut and bridges have collapsed. Floods have again occurred in other places. Troops are making improvised rafts and are trying to rescue parties which have been isolated.
