FEATHERSTON

RETURNED SOLDIERS MEETING OF LOCAL BRANCH. (“Times-Age” i Special.) At a special meeting of the Featherston branch of the Wairarapa Returned Soldiers’ Association held in the Anzac Hall, Featherston. Mr A. R. Robbins presided. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how the branch could best assist the men who leave from this district for active service overseas. Mr Robbins pointed out that there were many ways in which the R.S.A. could be of service to the men who were giving up their businesses or occupations to serve their country overseas, and suggested that a special committee be formed to render any assistance that may bo asked. After several members had spoken in favour of the proposal it was moved by Mr H. Lawson, seconded.by Mr O. C. Benton, "that a committee be formed to look after the interests of men going overseas on active service” was carried unanimously. The following were elected to the committee: Messrs D. H. S. Riddiford, A. R. Robbins, K. H. Allen, H. C. Hunter, H. Lawson, J. W. Fellingham, and F. S. Hayes. CRICKET MATCH FEATHERSTON DEFEATS GREYTOWN. A cricket match was played on the local ground yesterday between Featherston and Greytown, the former winning by 151 runs to 137. Sharp Earthquake. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt in Featherston on Sunday morning at about 6.20 o’lcock. Native Pigeons. Quite a few pigeons are to be seen daily picking the berries off shrubs and trees in the local garden. These pretty birds live in the bush in the. Domain. It is hoped that irresponsible persons will not destroy them. Personal. Mrs and Miss Lucena and Miss Lottie Mouat, all of Wellington, were weekend visitors te Featherston being the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Lawson.
