Senator Holt termed the address by Lord Lothian, “an attempt to pave the way for American involvement in the war in the -event of the Allies needing help . “He’s smart and clever, but we should realise that the logical conclusion of his viewpoint is our involvement if England needs us,” he said. Speaking at Chicago, Lord Lothian, British Ambassador, said he expected that Germany in the spring would launch a terrific attack on England and France by land, air and sea, since the issue before Germany was world Empire or downfall. He said the Allies were ready, but wanted the United States of America to understand the distinct possibility of “an unutterable disaster, which would extinguish light and freedom in Europe.”
