GYMNASIUM DAMAGED

FIRE AT CHILDREN’S HOME. OUTBREAK ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON. Severe damage to the gymnasium building at the Methodist Children's Home was caused by a fire which broke out on Saturday afternoon. The Masterton Brigade received the call at 3.23 p.m. and two engines, in charge of Superintendent T. B. Clark, turned out. On arrival the brigade found that the fire -had secured a good hold but the pumps were quickly brought into operation and within a few minutes the blaze was under control. Most of the stage, portion of the floor and some walls were destroyed. The building, which is a fairly large one. was at one time used for Salvation Army purposes in a military camp during the last war. It is covered by insurance. There were no contents in the building at the time of the fire.
