AN UGLY SCENE
PACIFISTS PELTED WITH EGGS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH. January 5. Two speakers with pacifist views caused an ugly scene in a Stratford street today when only police protection saved them from violence. After they had been speaking for some time, a number of returned soldiers rushed their position and ejected them, some following along the street to see that they did not return. The same two men spoke in the street tonight in New Plymouth where they were again accorded a hostile reception. Eggs were thrown at them and in the end a section of the crowd rushed them and forced them to cease speaking. There was no violence and the two men decamped. The police took the name of one of the two men.
