METHODISTS & WAR

(STATEMENT BY CONFERENCE | PRESIDENT ; YOUNG MEN WILL BE THERE. I COMMENT ON BIBLE CLASS j RESOLUTIONS. I — I (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ASHBURTON. This Day. "It. is not in any sense the feeling ’ of the Methodist Conference." said the 1 Rev Angus Mcßean. President of the 5 Conference, when commenting on the resolutions on war carried by the Methodist Young Mens Bible Class Convention at Wellington. 1 "My own conviction, from recent ' travels through New Zealand as Do- ‘ minion president, is that young men of the Methodist Church realise their responsibilities in the present crisis ' and, personally. I am sure the enlistments from our denomination will .be equal to those of any other Church. “The official pronouncement on war of the Methodist Conference, made some time ago was not in any sense a pacifist statement," Mr Mcßean said. “While regretting the necessity for enlistment the pronouncement urged young men to take their full share of' responsibility, but recommended that the decision of individuals for either course of their personal convictions should be respected. The pacifist element is strong in the convention, but I do not think the resolution represents the general feeling of the young men of the Methodist Church to that extent. Our young men will be there." the president concluded. ■ ■■ ■ I II I I
