The Governor-General, Lord Galway, left Auckland last night by the Limited express for Wellington. It is understood that his Excellency will return to Auckland at the end of this week. Mi- Cosgrove, Palmerston North, is at the Empire Hotel, Masterton. Mr Charles Hansen, of Nelson, and a former resident of Masterton, is spending a holiday at Masterton. Mr B. Chapman, of Morrinsville. who has been on a visit to Masterton, has returned home. Mr Chapman is a former resident of Masterton. Mr Francis J. Howie, editor of the "Tribune,” Whangarei, accompanied by Mrs Howie, has been on a visit to Masterton. Mr Howie left this morning for Wellintgon, where he will spend a few days prior to returning to Masterton, later going on to Whangarei. The death occurred at her home, Karori, yesterday, after a long illness, of Mrs Sarah Reese Cresswell, wife of Mr T. R. Cresswell, a former headmaster of Wellington College. Mrs Cresswell was a much esteemed and highly respected resident of Wellington, and will be remembered by many boarders who attended Wellington College during the period her husband was headmaster. Before her illness she tool: a prominent part in the affairs of the Wellington Y.W.C.A., and was a member of the committee responsible for the management of that institution. She is survived by her husband, one son, Mr R. L. A. Cresswell, solicitor, Wellington, and two daughters. Marjory (Wellington) and Jean (Mrs C. G. McKinney, Christchurch}. Another son, Hallam, was killed in action at Passchendaele, in 1917.

A well known New Zealand rifle stint, Mr Thomas J. Chapman. 56 Salamanca Road. Kclburn, accountant of the British Trades' Insurance Company, Wellington. died suddenly in Paraparaumu recently on his fifty-ninth birthday. He was the eldest, son of the late Mr Thomas Chapman, a champion cornet player and well-known bandmaster, who lived in Dune.din. Mr 'l. J. Chapman was a keen sportsman and a good marksman. He was a member ol the Petone Rifle Club and on several occasions was in Hie King's Fitly, and was with the New Zealand team which toured Australia in 1932. Mr Chapnan also had success as a golfer, and recently won the junior championship of the Taita Golf Club. He was also a member of the Rangimarie Golf Club, and a member of Leinster Masonic Lodge. No. 44.
