IN HOLIDAY ACCIDENTS IN VICTORIA. EDUCATION OF ROAD USERS. >y Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. MELBOURNE, January 2. The Christmas arid New Year holiday season ended with a total of 43 deaths from accidents, compared with 60 last year. Road accidents caused 22. compared with 30 last year, and drownings nine, compared with 21. 'The decline in road deaths is attributed by the police to greater road courtesy as a result of an intensive pre-holiday campaign. The police traffic control superintendent says he noticed a definite improvement in road manners this year. "Road users realise that it is better to be careful than to spend the holidays in hospital." he said. "I think the improvement is due to the persistent education of road users.” The position is all the more satisfactory, because an unbroken spell of perfect weather has been experienced throughout the holiday period, attracting a vast number of cars to the roads. N.S.W. FIGURES CONSIDERABLE IMPROVEMENT ' SHOWN. SYDNEY. January 2. The deaths in road accidents in New South Wales over the holidays were little more than half those of the preceding Christmas and New Year period, when 31 persons were killed. The traffic authorities claim that the improved figures are due to official advice and warnings issued to motorists.
