WELLINGTON TOURNAMENT. SINGLES WON BY D. G, FRANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Wellington Lawn Tennis Association's annual championship tournament, which began on Saturday and was continued on Monday, was concluded at Miramar yesterday with the exception of the mixed doubles, which are yet to be completed. Entries this year showed a decline, but this had been expected, as most visiting players are presumably holding off for the New Zealand centennial championships in Wellington, starting on February 10. Results of the semifinals and finals are:—
Men's singles—Semi-finals: N. V. Edwards beat N. F. Bedford, 6-1, 8-10, 6-1; D. G. France beat O. M. Bold, 6-3, 6-4. Final: D. G. France beat N. V. Edwards, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. Men’s Doubles. —France and Edwards beat J. W. Neale and Lyons, 6-3, 6-2; J. E. Hamilton and C. T. Macarthur beat P. Jacobsen and J. E. Walker, 6-2, 6-0. Final. —France and Edwards beat Hamilton and Macarthur, 6-2, 6-4.
Women’s Singles.—Semifinals: Miss J. Douthett beat Miss M. Howe, 6-2, 6-4; Miss J. Nicholls beat Miss J. Beban, 6-4, 6-4. Final: Miss J. Douthett beat Miss J. Nicholls, 6-0, 6-2. Women's Doubles. —Semifinals: Misses J. Douthett and J. Burns beat Mesdames N. V. Edwards adn Rickman, 6-2. 6-1: Mesdames D. G. Fi’ance and Dykes beat Misses Forester and Carrell, 9-7, 6-3. Final: Mesdames France and Dykes beat; Misses Douthett and Burns, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.
