PRUNE CAKE

AN AMERICAN RECIPE. The prunes should be cooked until very soft, but without sweetening. Cook in very little water, to keep the flavour. Mash finely. Cream f cup butter and 1 cup stigar and combine with 1 cup mashed and stoned prunes. Sift 1 teaspoon allspice and 1 teaspoon cinnamon with 2 cups flour and add 1 cup prune juice and 1 cup milk. Beat 2 eggs and add 1 teaspoon soda dissolved in 1 tablespoon warm water. Flavour with A teaspoon lemon extract. Pour into layer cake pans and bake in a moderate oven 350 degress F. until done. Frost with powdered sugar icing.
