RACECOURSE INCIDENT
TROUBLE AT STRATFORD. JUDGE ALTERS DECISION THREE TIMES. (By Telegraph—Press Asociation.i NEW PLYMOUTH. January 2. The biggest demonstration seen on a racecourse in Taranaki occurred at Stratford today after the Toko High-j weight, had been run. A large crowd | gathered round the judges box and I protested against the decision given | by the judge (Mr C. H. Washer) and] did not disperse until three changes in the numbers had been made. In an exciting finish Te Hai and Prince Rangi passed the post together, Tosh just heading Gay Seton. When the numbers went up Te Hal’s was missing and his supporters began to surge to the judge's box. The corrected numbers showed Te Hai third and the protest continued. When the numbers were lowered and hoisted again Prince Rangi was not placed and as he was favourite th: crowd grew larger till two officials of the club entered the box and the numbers were hoisted a fourth time showing a dead heat between Prince Rangi and Te Hai with Tosh third and Gay Seton fourth.
